This program is two-fold in purpose; first to provide child care while adults in the home are working, and second to provide an environment for learning. YMCA After School Care is designed to promote the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and recreational needs of school-age students. Weekly activities may include arts/crafts, outdoor group games, sports, homework time, music/songs, recreational swimming, indoor group work, field trip, snack and more. Students attending PUSD schools are transported by bus to the YAS Building where staff meet them upon arrival.. Read more...
This YMCA Member benefit is designed to provide a safe place for children to play while their parents are working out at the Y. All participants must have a current YMCA Membership and are asked to observe our two hour time limit. Parents must remain on the YMCA premises at all times. Read more...
I Am Thankful For Y Childcare....
I am so grateful for everything the YMCA has provided for both, my four and five-year-old daughters. The YMCA truly has been a second home for them, helping them learn, grow and prepare them for school. The values and structure the YMCA provided for them has made such a world of a difference in how they learn and interact with others. The YMCA staff has literally bent over backwards for their students and they have become amazing role models for my daughters. My youngest was so scared to go to school, but the teachers went out of their way to make her feel comfortable and now she loves to go to school! I really don’t know where we would have been without the amazing teachers and office staff, who have become more like family. My girls were able to attend the YMCA during the COVID outbreak and I don’t know what I would have done if they couldn’t have. When no one else was there to help, the YMCA was still there to reach out a helping hand. Now that my daughter’s kindergarten class has opened up for hybrid, she cries because she would rather go to the YMCA. Also, the time frames the YMCA provides is a lifesaver!!! They actually provide childcare for parents who have a job, instead of impossible hours for the working parent! Thank you for the amazing tuition and the opportunity for scholarships! My daughter is 4 years old and has attended YMCA preschool the past year and half. Having the YMCA for my child to attend had been a life saver especially being a healthcare worker during these COVID times. During the state shut down she attended preschool Monday thru Friday. She loves going to preschool and the teachers and her friends make her day special everyday. Peighton W.
We are parents of 2 young children, 7-year-old daughter and 4 year-old son. My husband and I both work full time. I do not know what we would have done without the YMCA thru these times. The Y allowed us to drop off our kids with complete peace of mind. They went over and above to make sure that our kids were in a clean safe environment. They set up an amazing distance learning center and did their very best to help our kids with their zoom meetings and daily schoolwork while having fun! I feel like the semi classroom environment allowed for them to have more focus than when they were at home. I will be forever grateful to the YMCA and their AMAZING loving, kind, and caring staff. Thank you for your help, and your kindness, thank you for putting yourselves out there for our kids and for us parents who really needed you guys, and most of all thank you for allowing our kids to have normality in this not so normal world right now. The YMCA has been an amazing asset to our lives. Our family owns a small business. My husband is a first responder, and I don’t think we would have made it during the shutdowns this year without the Y.
Our little guy has a lot of emotional trauma and behavioral issues. This school is amazing at communicating with us so that we can stay on top of his needs. They never disappoint and he always comes home tired after a long day of playing with his friends. The YMCA has been a tremendous help for our family this year. I cannot say enough great things about them. The fact that they had Emergency childcare during the outbreak of Covid–19 (and through all this year have accommodated the schedules of parents that had to work) was Amazing and a lifesaver. The staff has always been so helpful and caring. This year they all went above and beyond with so many challenges for communities. The staff helped the kids with online learning and when hybrid learning started, the staff in the classrooms at the Y helped the students with all of their work. I am SO THANKFUL for the YMCA and everyone in the Child Care Division. They all deserve special recognition. I am a single mother with sole custody of two children. My mother is the only family connection in the area, and we moved here to be with her a few years ago. As a single parent of young children, it has been hard to manage work and childcare. When my youngest child entered elementary school, I was able to begin moving up in the work force to provide a better life for my kids. Things have been progressing but when Covid hit, I was very concerned about what it would mean for my family. Fortunately, my company did not close or limit business, but the school closures had a profound impact on my children’s ability to be in a safe place and complete their online classes. My mother helped the best she could but was unable to help the children with learning and unable to mentally manage the 2-5 days a week. When the YMCA notified us that they would be providing emergency childcare, I felt such relief. I was not able to stay home (while also paying the bills) with them so that they would have the help they needed for school, but the YMCA provided a safe and healthy place for my children to be during the day so that I could continue working uninterrupted. Even now, with the hybrid teaching schedule and the newly changing class times, the YMCA has been able to keep the kids safe while allowing them to get online for distance learning classes and assignments. I don’t think that I would have been able to keep working during Covid if the YMCA hadn’t been able to stay open for us in our time of need. Thank you guys!! A Thankful Childcare Parent
What YMCA childcare meant to my family:
The YMCA saved my family from extreme stress during the time of COVID 19. I am a nurse and had to work long, strange hours and my husband owns his own business. We lost a lot of revenue when COVID initially started up because he had to stay home to be with our 8yo daughter. Tensions ran very high in my household because the two were not used to spending day after day together, not to mention the fact that they have personalities that are like two peas in a pod. Usually, when they are together too long, they start to fuss at each other, and I am the buffer because I am different. When we learned that the YMCA was open during COVID it was a Godsend. It allowed my daughter to go into a normal routine and my husband to go back to work. While still stressful, the Y staff did A LOT to keep the children in a routine. Once online schooling started, that consistency allowed my daughter to deal with the massive changes of doing online schooling. When she struggled with the online teaching, if a concern was ever raised to the staff, they listened to the concern and were extremely collaborative to come up with a solution. Because the YMCA has so many awesome extra programs, my daughter was able to do gymnastics and swimming which she loves during a time when others were restricted. The YMCA preschool has been so amazing through the pandemic when I had to go back to work. I was so panicked she was not going have a spot in the essential workers program. We only waited a week and I got a call they had found a spot for my girl. Stephanie (especially) was so amazing through the whole process and made the transition on my daughter getting back to school so comfortable and safe. All the staff and teachers have made this process so easy and safe on our whole family. So thankful for the caring staff at the YMCA!! Thank you again YMCA. Becca
We, as Prescott parents are so grateful to the YMCA, especially during this global pandemic. The Y helped us with critical childcare so we could return to our jobs and continue to support our life, welfare, and happiness. Their attention to health as they screened each and every child before allowing them in their buildings has been stellar. If someone were to ask me what the YMCA and STAFF especially the Childcare mean to my family... Without them I wouldn't be able to work and provide for my children!! The amazing care that my children receive here gives me a sense of relief throughout my day. I work in healthcare and during these strange times, things couldn't be more difficult but the YMCA does it with such confidence and poise that I could never express how grateful WE are to have this place and staff to call our second home and second family. I currently have a 4 year-old child that goes to the YMCA Preschool 3 days a week and want you to know what the YMCA means to me. I have been using the YMCA Preschool and the afterschool program off and on for over 15 years with all 4 of my daughters. I am always very happy with the structure of the programs, activities, and of course the cleanliness of the facility. The staff is very involved with the children which makes my children feel safe and comfortable to spend their days away from home there. I feel comfortable with the safety protocols they use for a range of different things such as child pick up/drop off, illnesses, accidents etc. The staff is very good at communicating with parents regarding their children. I would highly recommend the YMCA to others in a heartbeat. My children and I have been very blessed to have the YMCA as part of their growth. Sincerely, Tara Y.
